The Context
In 2022, I took responsibility for a 20-year-old insurance training brand with a proud history of classroom-based delivery, but an uncertain future.
During the pandemic, the training world had shifted. Everything had moved online.
Clients wanted flexible, digital, and relevant learning experiences, and the business risked being left behind to the very online learning solutions that I had built and led for the previous 15 years.
The Challenge
The company’s brand had recognition, but not resonance. Its courses were solid, but lacked differentiation, and many clients had turned to webinars and short-form learning from newer entrants.
The challenge was twofold:
- Stabilise revenues and client confidence after COVID-19.
- Reimagine the business model for a digital-first world, without losing its heritage.
The Insight
The key wasn’t to compete on volume or price. The business had credibility, we needed to modernise it without losing what made it trusted.
The opportunity was to blend heritage and innovation, to make the brand feel both familiar and fresh, and to change our whole approach to marketing and delivering outcomes based on personal development not selling training seats in a classroom.
We saw potential in focusing on quality content, trainer-led workshops delivered online, working in partnership with new distribution partners, and re-designing our content into new subject areas, creating premium, bespoke programmes for insurers and brokers who valued depth over scale.
The Solution
I led a full repositioning, business plan and rebrand of the training company:
- Brand Refresh: Updated visual identity, tone, and proposition to communicate professionalism and relevance.
- Product Innovation: Redesigned core programmes, including a full relaunch of an insurer Broker Leader Programme, a flagship leadership development pathway.
- Digital Expansion: Worked with another leading insurer to created a new insurance broker webinar training programme, giving thousands of brokers access to CPD-accredited live tutor-led learning online.
- Growth Plan: Developed new partnerships and sales strategies to rebuild recurring revenue streams post-pandemic.
The team adopted a consultative mindset, focusing on client goals, not course lists and selling seats.
The Outcome
Within two years, the business achieved year-on-year growth, regained market share, and strengthened its position as the UK’s trusted training partner for brokers and insurers.
The insurer partner programmes became industry exemplars of partnership-led learning.
The company’s reputation, once at risk, was revitalised and future-proofed.
The Reflection
This project proved that longevity doesn’t guarantee relevance, but relevance can revive longevity. By combining purpose, partnership and digital thinking, we turned a legacy training business into a modern learning brand.
Reinvention isn’t about forgetting the past, it’s about giving it a new purpose.
